Opentun.ing is the project born of necessity. I started learning piano in Sprint 2024 by playing the music that I listen to. Lucky me, the music is very similar that you could hear in airports or elevators, so my skill level was just alright.
The problem with this music is that’s almost impossible to find sheets for it. I had to poke too many people too many times to find someone who could help me out. And I found them! They are so talented and adapt the music to my skill level and arrange it in the way that it sounds rich and full when only piano is in action.
My skills progressed, I learned one song after another, and more complex, hey, I even played to an audience of 12 adults, so I needed more music.
I thought that I could help others in the same situation. Guess that was enough for me to start building and make something that would benefit similar minded people. You bring your tunes and we’ll get you sheet music. It’s that simple.
Remember I mentioned weird businesses? That’s one of them. There’s no business plan here, I don’t plan to become rich on this but I hope that would suffice to pay for the techstack and to people that arrange the music.
As of right now, here’s my todo list for this project:
- ✅ Find talented person to arrange your music
- ✅ Create a website
- ✅ Enable production account with Stripe to accept payments
- ✅ Privacy respecting analytics for the website
- 🔲 Get approved by Spotify to ensure the service is available to anyone with Spotify account (for now I need to add emails of people manually to the allow-list and there are less than 20 spots left)
- 🔲 Progressive web app to install on the phones from the browser
- 🔲 Launch with announcements on Fedi and ProductHunt. Reddit maybe, but I don’t hang out there at all.
- 🔲 Add community ratings to the sheets (🤦, 🫣, 🤔, 😏, 😃 instead of stars)
- 🔲 Add ability to share media content like youtube videos of people actually performing music
- 🔲 Add ability to share your own music sheets
- 🔲 Add background worker to be able to pull updates from Spotify in the background
